Why a safety solution?
Mondi had experienced some near misses in the past. They had also experienced an accident (thankfully not serious) involving forklift trucks and pedestrians. They had decided that they needed to put a safety solution in place before there was a serious accident or fatality.
They decided to trial equipment from ZoneSafe and another company that provided similar products. They felt that ZoneSafe’s products were the better of the two. They also preferred the structure and design of the ZoneSafe tags that fit into a safety vest pocket – they liked that they are easily visible to others, as opposed to something too discreet, for example a wristband type.
Mondi installed the ZoneSafe Vehicle to Person Alert Compact system in 2013. This helps to prevent collisions between industrial vehicles and pedestrian workers when they work in close proximity to one another. The system is designed to fit any type of vehicle, large or small. The installation was also able to be done in-house.
What positive effects has the system had?
Since installing the ZoneSafe system, Mondi has not experienced any incidents or near-misses. This has of course had a positive effect on all employees and vehicle operators. Mondi is now considering rolling out other ZoneSafe systems on other sites, to ensure the safety of their employees.
